Had a good weekend at the Puuloa range at Ewa Beach this weekend.  Saturday was the open rifle practice with 16 shooters firing AR15's, a bolt actions, and M1 carbines from the 200, 300, and 600 yard lines.  It was a long hot clear day in the sun.  Winds were coming from the 12 o'clock with a slight crosswind downrange giving a little extra challenge.  First few shots at 600yds were scattered, but after 20 minutes the shooters settled down into good groups both with scopes and iron sights.  The intriguing event of the day was shooting the M1 Carbine at 600 yards, which normally has an effective range at 300 yards at most  Hitting a 600 yard target involves a bullet drop of over 400 inches, 2 second time of flight, and velocity reduction from 1900fps to 700fps.  A few bullets actually hit the 6 foot wide target.  However it was determined this would be the first, and last time an M1 carbine would be shot at that distance at Puuloa after scaring the target pit crew from the wild shots.

Sunday was the CMP vintage rifle shoot.  It was another another hot day.  M1 Garands made up the bulk of the competition, with a M1 Carbine and 1903 Springfield to round it out.  It went pretty smooth.

Next events will be a Saturday pistol practice and Sunday NRA rifle practice planned for November.

Great day. Except for the 20 min flash flood.

22 shell went inside my glasses. Burned my eyelid
Had the glasses a little bit away from my face to prevent
The glasses from fogging up.
