I'm trying to help someone write a paper about guns in today society. I mentioned to her about a video I was once told about where a group did an experiment where they taught one set of kids about gun safety and not the other set. Then both sets were placed in a room and an unloaded revolver was placed in the toy box. The class taught safety stayed away and but the other set that wasn't taught about gun safety was playing with the gun and one kid even started pull the trigger on himself thinking it's a toy.

Now I've only heard of this video and never actually seen it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and if it even exists? If it does, could you send me a link or a title? I tried googling it but with no luck, then again I'm not really sure I'm using the correct words in the search bar.

I'm pretty sure it was one of the major tv network news shows like Dateline or similar.

ABC and 20/20 did experiments with kids, ages ranging from very young elementary through 15.  The premise was, kids are naturally drawn to handguns when left unattended.

After the NRA "Eddie Eagle" cartoons were viewed, COPs gave lectures, and teachers reinforced the lessons, the young kids still played with guns left in the toy boxes or on desks.

What the experiment omitted was the reinforcement and diminished attraction to guns once the child actually gets to use one on the range.  The novelty factor is hard to control.
