i saw a case about this somewhere in the honolulu books that basically said...

long gun information is protected
handgun information is not
information about the gun owner (name, address) is protected
carry permits are protected.

as with any other FOIA, expect some major stalling, fees per page, lookup fees, blacked out pages, or simply that there are no records of anything, at all.

Well luckily, they can't really stall to much -- the statutes forbid it.

If you read through it you can see what I am looking for.

Doesn't matter if statute forbids it. They can and will stall, because they know your pockets aren't deep enough to sustain a lengthy legal battle over a FOIA request.

Good luck with the request. It's way more professional than anything I could draft up :)

Good letter. Hope it works. I have yet to get my information back that they lost while I was trying to register a handgun. I called and they also have no record of the docket number they gave me to
track my complaint.

No faith in the process.

Relax, I've banned myself..

Great letter. A couple of possible edits -

Font for your inside address is different than the body text.

Is the term "Formally written" as used in the first paragraph a term of art? If not, might you consider "formal written request" instead?

In your "Statement of Facts," page 6, first full paragraph: We also maintain access to various and mailing and distribution lists..." I believe you mean "We also maintain access to various mailing and distribution lists...." so the "and" is not necessary.

Good work. Thanks Chris!
