Squash used as a suppressor in a robbery

From the blogpost:

Wyff4.com reports that a thief fired shots at a business using a squash as a suppressor. He then threw a cinder block through the window and stole lottery tickets.

… deputies say they saw someone walk up to the building and fire two shots from a gun that had a squash on the end of it.

Seems this guy has gone out of his way to break as many laws as possible, including manufacturing a suppressor illegally.

Ok, the ATF better start adding assault vegetables to the list.
I think, therefore I am armed.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Potato farmers are getting a little anxious.  They're eyeing the gourd farmers moving in on their turf.
No one is coming, it’s up to us.

Legislation should never be about depriving law abiding citizens of something, but rather taking those things away from criminals.

Is this genius actually being charged with use/possession of an illegal suppressor?

18 U.S.C. 921 (a)(24):

"The terms 'firearm silencer' and 'firearm muffler' mean any device for silencing, muffling, or dimishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any parts intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication."

Not sure that a squash would fit into the definition of a, "device," but I guess the Prosecution would bear the burden of establishing that a garden vegetable, used in this manner, falls under the definition of a, "device."

I would argue that once it was modified to a form other than it's original intended use [ food ] it became a "device". Therefore subject to the statute.  :D
