Just a reminder.  308 calibers and up to .50 BMG at KR3 are allowed, .416 Barrett is not authorized as it will exceed the approved maximum distance.  No personel beyond 100 meters downrange for placement of targets. SRGC personnel may access the exterior of the tower but will not access the inside of the tower.

Wait .416 Barrett is not allowed at SRGC  but allowed at kokohead ?  Isn't it anything up to 50bmg that's allowed?

At Schofield and other military ranges, they're usually smarter on the caliber selection and it's based on the farthest distance the round can travel.  a .416 is more aerodynamic than a 50 cal so will travel further.  It's so there's no risk of someone getting hit on another range in front or to the sides from an errant bullet.  Known as SD zones.

At Koko Head, the 50 cal was banned because someone shot a round over the mountain and it made the news a long time ago.  Banned more due to PR than science due to most any rifle caliber can be shot over the mountain into the housing so it doesn't really make a difference.

Okay thanks I'm leaving the .416 home and bringing the 50 .

If you shoot you have to become a member of the club (or guest of a member).   If you want to become a member of the Schofield Rod and Gun club, the only way to become a member is to attend the monthly meeting on the second wednesday of the month at the Schofield skeet range SR5 at 7pm.  Bring your shotgun if you want to shoot a round of skeet/trap at the same time.

There is a waiting list for civilians, but you can still shoot if guest of a member.

This is the only place in hawaii where you can shoot your personal high caliber/power rifles at long distances and is only held a few times a year.  (Puuloa is limited to 30-06 and 600 yards).

ZippZ is right! You have to go to the meeting to become a member. SRGC won't take mail in applications.

I handed in my membership during the last member meeting, but haven't heard anything, no emails. I didn't even know about KR3 being open on Saturday.

Me and a friend stopped by Wednesday to ask and they said the person in charge of membership applications just got it that day (21 May) and should be hearing from them soon.

Nice half day til it rained about noon.  We had about 15 Big Boy Toys Shooter with their 5.56, 308, 338 Lapua, and 50 Cal. Shot my Barrett MRAD about 400 meters and spin the metal targets without a problem. Mr. Barrett 50 took out some targets and that is a Beast.  Thanks for us shooting the Beast.  One of the bucket list complete.  Mr. Sheriff Sniper came out and shot with us and really show us how to sight our rifles.  He's dead on. What a rush, I love this range.  Having hard time uploading video.
