The thing with requiring online connection to play is that it's an oppressive DRM. Having to go through one more hoop just to play the game. Which is why I hate Steam with a passion, but the trend nowadays is to require it to play. What happens when your internet is down, or their servers are broken. I'm sure there will be an offline mode as there is in Steam, but any achivements and stuff like that won't be archived. Nothing worse than when you're having a great time playing your game and your connection decides to get frisky and disconnects you. Lots of fun when you're losing connection intermittently because Oceanic can't get their shit together. You're playing you're playing you're playing then suddenly BOOM "you have been logged out" message pops up. Same thing with "Games for WindowsLive" or whatever the Microsoft version was called. I freaking HATE that one for sure.
Personally, I'm passed that point where I am going to purchase games like that knowingly. I kept buying them just to try and change my opinion. I used to get pissed, but I'm not even mad anymore. It's just a matter of fact now that I'm not going to buy those. Same thing with $59 computer games. No thanks. You can keep your game.
To me, NO MODS means several things:
It's a console port.
A deliberate slap to the face of computer users and their capabilities.
Forever DLC's.
When you give freedom to the players, the game has the potential to last a hell of a lot longer and generate much more loyalty than the ones that are manufactured sell and forget games cranked out nowadays.
Yeh. I'm a computer snob.
The auction thing and using real money...I don't really care either way.
I've actually been finding a lot of joy in playing indy games lately. lol.
