Need some help with a lr308 rifle

hey my brother has a brand new lr308 he put together and its not shooting well and the extractor looks like it is under alot of stress it has lots of brass all on it from the shells so my question is does the rifle need to be head spaced any input would be awesome thanks

Is it just brass smears on the front face of the extractor? A pic might help. What do you mean by not shooting well? Failure to go into battery, eject, extract, etc?

+1 on the pics for particulars.

I did a lot of smoothing of rough edges on the extractor of a LR308.  Mostly due to the gouges on the brass rim so that it would be reloadable without worry.  Did improve things.

Factory cannot take a jewelers file to things the way an owner can to make it perfect.  That is part of the joy of tinkering and understanding the functioning of all the parts.

I suspect a Baer or Noveske rifle comes that way, at least I would hope so at that price.  For the LR308, fine tuning is part of the pleasure. 

Maybe I should get a LR308, supposed to be a good .308 rifle for the price?
