Let me guess he stole a car and ran away.

inmates get free food, housing, AC, and  medical.

Kids are required to pay for school lunch , med bills and no AC at school!

they are better off than you and me.

No doubt both lifelong victims of racist taunts by the imperialist illegal invaders of the Kingdom of Hawaii and an upbringing by parent(s) also so oppressed. They can't help it. Such victims of oppression have no option or choice but to assault, kidnap, burgle and steal. It makes you wonder, though, how the vast majority of people raised in nearly identical conditions turn out to be law-abiding...

You gotta wonder too, who will turn out to be the victims of their 19th and 54th arrests...

Or am I being too "cynical"?

Absolutely not. Whats even worse is when you see someone arrested for 50 charges but then it shows only 10 convictions. I know the prosecutors give plea deals to save time and money but it seems their success rate is pretty poor.

Well, at least the police are doing their job.  If it weren't probably against departmental policy, I'd expect the biggest outcry from the cops.
