Didn't start a poll because I don't want this anonymous for lurkers.

I plan to join now that they have online payment (shortly anyway)

I didn't understand why they opposed the expanded castle doctrine last legislative session though.

I would assume that some horrible amendments were thrown in by the enemy.  Of course this is all speculation since I haven't read the exact bill.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

Yes, HRA, LIFE, NRA,

I didn't understand why they opposed the expanded castle doctrine last legislative session though.

Governor Linda Lingle today signed into law (Act 97) is SB0532 SD1 HD1 CD1 RELATING TO LIMITING CIVIL LIABILITY.
Also known as the “CASTLE DOCTRINE”, and originally introduced by Slom:shaka: the version that passed was sponsored by Senate Judiciary Chairman Brian Taniguchi (D-Manoa),
By Request. Current Hawaii law requires a homeowner to “retreat” from his or her own home when invaded by a criminal engaging in a felony.
The new law establishes provisions relating to owner to felon; limited liability.
Provides that any owner of any other interest in real property shall not be liable to any perpetrator for any injury or death that occurs upon the real property during the course or after the commission of certain felony offenses. — Section Affected: 663- (1 SECTION) OWNER TO FELON.

This in itself was a Milestone for Hawaii.
Perhaps the "expanded" defeated the progress made up above.

During the course of or after committing certain felonies...

The current law basically reads that a person needs to be in the act of committing a violent felony to be able to invoke the castle doctrine.

Kind of too late already.
Definitely better than what we had but not very strong.

As I read it last sessions bill made it much easier to invoke the castle doctrine law on an intruder but HRA testified against it.
I could be wrong about the statute.

MauiD or HiCarry may be able to shed some light on this.

I worked with a guy on the Big Island that did not go to jail for shooting two guys stealing his mangoes off his farm.

Proud member of the HRA, HDF and NRA (Life). I usually volunteer for both days at the Shooting Sports Fair. Didn't this year due to knee surgery. I volunteered to take the RSO course just because the HRA needed RSO's a few years ago. My wife volunteered with me year before last for both days of the SSF and she is not a member of the HRA. They made her an honorary member for volunteering.  I feel it is important to support the local 2A political face. No matter how much I like or dislike some of the people who also volunteer for the HRA. Because at the end of the day, divided or not we need to all be on the same side and like them or not the HRA is the main face for us shooters. JMHO  :shaka:

HRA, former member but became inactive some time ago. Will re-join when I'm active again and go to one of their events.

LIFE, not sure but I used to go to some of their events, together with HRA.

NRA, no because I didn't like them calling my home phone asking me to join. They have enough money and members anyway.

it's in my sig...

NRA Life Member

HRA Member.. saving up for an HRA Life membership.  As Old Guy suggested, I have many more years to go... might as well make it a 1 time payment.

As for the discussion on the other thread, I am willing to look past personality issues... let's be willing to live and let live.  Let's focus on the real issue... united we stand, divided we fall.  In this state, we need to unite more than to divide.   :shaka: :shaka: :shaka:

I think, therefore I am armed.

I've been an nra lifer for a long time.
I've been hra on and off for decades, due to life changing events. Sometimes we just get preoccupied with life issues.
...
The important thing to remember is that the NRA is like the cops. They are there, but far away and slow to react.
The HRA is like that pistol you keep near you for emergencies. It's right here.
...
For the folks who have some sort of personality issues with certain people and use that excuse to NOT join hra or nra, I say this:

I'm not asking you to get married to anybody.
These organizations are bigger than any individual.
Support the cause.

Well said, Brothers JI808 and O.F.
We only got one real opposition or in plain words, enemy.   They don't play fair or speak the truth to get their agenda passed.
Stay united!
