I am planning to retire over there as well. I have 3 acres down in the Southpoint area. Homes and acreage in some areas is still extremely reasonable and affordable.

I am on the BI frequently.  I am there or here now.

No..no farm. Just 3/4 acre near the ocean. I spend most of my free time up in the mountains though. Good luck on your retirement!

Awesome!   I want to get enough land to have a private shooting area.  If I get an opportunity to go there with my job I am on it!  Love to farm and raise chickens.  Like Hilo and Mona/Capt. Cook areas best so far from what I have seen on the net.  Will visit soon.

Just be aware that it is quite the haul from Kona / Capt Cook area to the district of Puna if your thinking about commuting. 

In Puna there are many hunters and gun owners good or bad and it is not uncommon to hear gunfire, again good or bad.  I get more pissed off about the trespassing, illegal hunting and thieves that roam around on ATV's.  Also the hunters that are irresponsible with their hunting dogs.  I love dogs and own my share, but Ranch rules apply.

Probably just buy the bare land up there to make the range.  Buy a farm down Capt cook/Kona area.   We will see how it pans out.  Thanks!!
