got to make money some how, Ebay has stooped almost all advertising money for conservative, religious and gun videos.

My question is more, who the hell is willing to pay $31.00 (or more?) for a target?

I believe he puts the targets in the box of the guns he reviews from Buds Gun Shop, if you get his gun off egunner it's just a bonus.

You're not buying an item for yourself.  You're donating to his cause.  He has a lot of expenses, and a few boxes of Federal Ammo and YouTube video ads only pay for so much.

YouTube is in the process of stopping all advertising for videos they don't like, including firearms-related.  He'll be more dependent on donations in the future.  I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start an online gift shop for fans to buy the gear he reviews and souvenirs.

How much for targets, especially all those 2 liter sodas?   

He has to maintain the range, he buys some of the guns he reviews which are not loaners or gifts.  Plus the time and expense of preparation, recording, editing and posting all the videos.

He gets free ammo, but how much?  Is it enough to cover all of his testing, review video shooting and off-camera practice?


He often posts videos without any reviews or shooting, where he talks about protecting our 2A rights and other related issues.  Latest video on his cause:  Join the NRA....

I never saw his videos before and it does seem odd at first selling a target on ebay from someone you never heard before.  I had to look him up as I thought he would be a champion shooter or something but he's not.  He has a strong youtube following and says he never accepted youtube funding so the target sale makes sense to me now and he looks like a really nice guy.

I don't think Hickok45 and his youtube channel is a cause.  Don't get me wrong as I have no problem with what he does and more power to him, but lets face it, he undoubtedly now a business.  It isn't like he "sold out" or anything like that, but lets not think that he only makes enough money just to pay for his video production and shooting habit.  It probably started that way like most youtubers, but it is now a business also.  I do like that he does not monetize and there is some money to make there for him from youtube, but monetization and income from ads and isn't where the big money is, but rather the affiliate or sponsorship's.  Could he be more aggressive about money?  Sure, but I am pretty sure he isn't just scraping by with free ammo and donated guns to use for video's.

As for buying his targets, well good for him and if buying his "memorabilia" is your thing, more power to you, its your money.

I never buy a gun without watching every Hickok45 review of it.  He's very factual, more than judgmental.  I've read comments on how he's never met a gun he didn't like.  He avoids giving personal preferences.  He gives specs, compares features of similar models and leaves you to decide what maters most to the viewer.

He's also entertaining at times.  I think he became more famous when his videos carving Halloween Jack-o-Lanterns with his firearms went viral.

Not a bad shot for a middle-school English teacher!   

 

I believe he said all or a portion of these targets on ebay and a portion of the resold guns on egunner auction proceeds go to the Tennessee food bank or something charity.  He is mostly just a dude you go out and hang with at the range and BS about guns.  I think he's cool.  I've watched his videos for years and it never seemed to me that he was about making a living off of this.  It's his hobby he shares with everyone, he advocates for safety and 2A, He's factual and informative on reviews, he doesn't claim to be operator status, Doesn't seem bigheaded about any of it, just that cool uncle you'd like to go hang out with....  He is one of the great gun channels on youtube.

There isn't much money made in the shooting world.  People think instructors, professional shooters, businesses, and even the NRA make a lot of money but they don't and there's risks involved.  You have to love it to do it.
