The LGBT Case For Guns - New York Times

Seeing as how the last post got locked because someone decided to do their best to hijack it with shallow minded nonsense, I'm forced to post this very timely and interesting article in a new thread.

Fascinating how this got past the NYT editorial board, but I figure that after a number of fatal attacks on transgender people that never seem to make it very high on law enforcement's priority list they are desperate to end the violence towards people just because they look different.

I think anyone, citizen or not, has the natural right to self defense.  Some in society are at higher risk as targets of violence whether it's gay, elderly, or of a different ethnicity.

Luckily, the US protects the right to keep and bear arms, if not all states.  People more likely to be bullied should be taught many forms of self defense, including safe and effective use of firearms.  Once they are old enough, they should at least apply for CCW permits and have that option without the need to wait a month or three.

Many women have killed their domestic abusers or would-be rapists rather than be a victim.  The other groups should be afforded the same right of self defense.

Here's another story about how some private ranges offered free instruction for LGBT and got huge turnouts. That's some brilliant outreach. Considering they are roughly 10% of the population that could translate into some pretty serious sales down the line.

It is always better if people can separate issues and come together on issue that are mutually shared.  People disagree on lots of things, yet they agree on lots as well.  This, is a way forward, that will empower our cause.

Exactly. We shouldn't be pigeon holed into a certain set of beliefs based on a position on a single issue.
