Watching Gang Wars Oakland II
« on: January 10, 2012, 12:15:41 AM »
Watching a program that makes me sick. all these kids running around with guns. using them like tools.
What gets me is how do you protect yourself and family from this type of stuff?  Just be glad we don't live
there but I have been in Kalihi when shots were fired on N King.  How can we protect ourself when the LEOs
can't be there all the time and the city requires us to keep our tools locked up at home.......irking.

just ranting.....

Totally agree! People running around shooting innocent people because they trying to shoot someone with the wrong color or different race and we can't even carry to protect ourselves?!? And yet we probably the first ones to get our guns taken away?!?! Wtf?!?! Sometimes I wish I could be bad like these guys cause it almost seems like they always get what they want...

Don't you get it, you're supposed to stay at home all the time and only work at a shop you can carry in. Otherwise, it's the internet for everything else </sarcasm>

Let's hope Chris Baker and his organization's lawsuit will change the law. Then we can protect ourselves and our families. Let's also remember the best way to avoid these things is to also try and avoid these types of situations if possible. For instance, staying out of the known high crime areas after dark if possible. Or if confronted trying to defuse the situation and walk/run away before pulling a weapon. Pulling the weapon is supposed to be the last resort. Pull it too soon and you can go to jail. There is a good self defense show on TOC called Best Defense. I know I'll probably get a good book or two if the CCW law is changed in our favor.

My co-workers is originally from Michigan where he has his CCW.  He took several classes while back home, but the message that stands out the most is:

"Once you strap that gun on you better be prepared to use it and to take someone's life if need be.  If you aren't and you are weak the assailant will just overwhelm you take your gun and shoot you.  Then they'll use your gun to commit who knows how many other violent crimes."

But sometimes trouble just stumbles upon you.  If one of the bystanders were lawfully armed he or she could have easily prevented the beating my friend witnessed at Aiea Bowl last year.  Below is the link to that post.

So if the Govt outlaws guns for law abiding citizens how are they going to get them away from criminals? and what is going to protect us from them (govt and the bad guys)?

Everytime I think about this I get so fustrated!

Thankfully most gang related violence is gang-on-gang; unfortunately most victims of gang violence catch stray bullets since they rarely hit each other.  I grew up in gang neighborhoods and gang infested schools, I would never subject my family to that kind of life (we currently live in a older community full of retired Air Force, Navy, and Lockheed Martin factory workers where the most action is local smokeys pulling people over for speeding in a school zone.)

One of my good buddies is a Detective in OPD. He has an SOTECH Go-Bag filled with enough spare ammo to take down a small Latin American country. He keeps it by his desk just in case. There is a reason it's called "Baghdad by the Bay." He said the bangers there fight like they have nothing to lose. I'm hoping he retires soon but he's one of the good ones and they need him.
