How long can you park on the street?
This Mercedes has been parked in front of my house for well over a month...Maybe 2 months.

This will bring some one to chalk the tires and monitor then if not moved it will be towed. Enjoy use a nom de guerre, put your real number though because they may call you.

Sometimes these turn out to be stolen cars.  The police will check it when they chalk it.

Nah, it doesn't bother me that much. Besides, it would be fairly obvious who called the cops since it is in front of MY house.
I don't see any dripping fluids, blue-eyed flies or detect any foul odors, so I'm not too worried.

I was thinking it might be a stolen car, but I've seen it disappear then return later so it probably belongs to a neighbor.

My son used to park his car on the street in Palolo, and leave it there for weeks...until I told him to bring it to my house so I can maintain it and keep an eye on it.

about 15 years ago I was jogging about a 1/2 mile from my house and I saw my friend's Toyota parked on the street. Somebody had stolen it.
Lucky guy actually got his car back.

That web page does say 24 hours for abandoned vehicles.
I was thinking about claiming it as abandoned property. Then it's yours after 45 days. Or something like that..

While 24 hours can be used to classify a car as abandoned, it was my understanding that that distinction is cause for much of the confusion and frustration regarding rules and enforcement of street parking on public roads. 

I've seen where HPD will respond by chalk marking tires in certain areas, but I was told that that was usually only if someone complained.  If not, then I don't think anything happens.  Then even if a car is chalked, I've heard that they typically allow something like 2-3 days to try to contact the registered owner before doing stuff like towing.  However, I guess it depends on how persistent the person who complained is.  Think unless it's obviously junked, it probably takes a lot to get it towed. 

At my dad's house, there are cars that remain in the same spot, often unmoved for weeks.  But those are typically cars that belong to the people that live in the house where the car is parked or somewhat nearby.  The street isn't particularly challenging for parking, but I can see areas like in Lanikai and Manoa where parking is super tough and people are more inclined to complain.

When I was living in Kailua, I woke up one morning to see a Lexus LS400 parked in my driveway.  Never saw that car on my street before so I called HPD.  They told me there is nothing they can do since it is parked on private property and not on the street.  I said, "OK, thank you."  As I was about to hook up my pick up to drag it so it would completely block the street, my neighbor 3 houses up comes running and apologized profusely, telling me it was her son's friend's car and she doesn't know why he parked it there.  He spend the night at their house.  He came running down a few seconds later to move it.  Idiot.

That would've been my first thought. Then I'd try and find my "keys" and drive it.

If they mark your tires, you just have to move the vehicle couple of inches daily if they come back, before they put that sticker on your windshield.  If it's like the illegal parking (approx. 6"X8") orange sticker they used to put on at PHNSY, that sticker is very hard to remove.
