Victim was a 57 visiting from Montana with his wife. Gary Breitling.
Shooter was Reynaldo Cardenas. Did not get caught up in the barricade, luckily I was in the Mandalay.

There are a lot of undocumented in Vegas. Half the kids in the public schools are transitory. I put my kid into a private school to avoid that. I remember when they started offering drivers licenses to the undocumented, and the lines at the Clark County DMV were several hours long.  I thought who would go through that so they can be licensed undocumented? Doesn't that just give the Feds your address where you live? The truth is that most of these people are the ones cleaning the rooms and cooking the food because no documented want to do those jobs.

wonder if he is "undocumented"

"The bus had stopped on the Strip near the Cosmopolitan hotel-casino and passengers were leaving when Cardenas stood up and fired several rounds from a handgun, police said. The man didn't fire all of his bullets, but he did shoot at police during the barricade. Police said they didn't fire any shots. Assistant Sheriff Tom Roberts also said that authorities believe Cardenas may have had "mental issues."

Witnesses say there was no provocation either.  No one was speaking to him or anything.  He just started shooting.  Nevada doesn't do a mental health background check for CCW.  Hence why the NV permit is not valid in WA.  Not sure if one is done when buying guns.

Yes, but only if there is a court order for a mental disorder. They don't ask if the courts don't know about it. I was surprised in Hawaii when I had to sign a medical release form. That means the State has a team of administrators in a back office who can understand and evaluate the medical records to determine if the applicant is medically competent. Specifically, "a drunk driving record, history of serious psychiatric diagnosis, or any treatment for alcohol or drug abuse will result in denial of your permit. A letter from a physician will be required to establish that you are “no longer adversely affected." That's got to cost the State a lot money to manage this.

Of course he had "mental issues"...  What sane person just starts shooting (stabbing, beating, whatever) random people for no apparent reason?  I am getting tired of hearing this kind of thing, like it is some kind of excuse.  Especially when the police comes out and says it.  Now that leaves the door wide open for a 'reason of insanity' defense. Even if that is not an expert witness attesting, it's now out there in the public, true of not.

And, of course, now that the perpetrator is now 'not responsible' for their actions, it must be the guns fault!!!

It is ALWAYS the guns fault.  Guns make you do things you don't want or did not intend to do.   ::)

It seems like multi-victim killers are trying to one-up each other. If they're gonna commit suicide, they have to come up with a more horrendous crime like Sandy Hook or shooting the reporters live on TV or strangers live on Facebook. Just walking into a college classroom isn't enough anymore. Obviously, video games and rock n roll have desensitized us to violence.
