Ruth Bader Ginsburg confuses Senator Lindsey Graham with a woman (Read 5410 times)

Not only does the legal exercise of our inalienable rights depend upon the judgment of this woman, but one could say that their very existence depends upon her. That is so infuriating and sad. She will never voluntarily retire, as she has stated it is her goal to serve until the age of 95 and thus become the oldest justice ever to serve on SCOTUS. That'd be eleven more years of sleeping through State of the Union addresses and getting confused during oral arguments, etc.

There is video of her statement, so as to dispel any criticism that someone "misheard" what she said.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg confuses Lindsey Graham with a woman

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg erroneously labeled South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham as one of the "women of the Senate" on Monday.

Ginsburg's misstatement came in her remarks upon accepting an Allegheny College award given to her and the late Justice Antonin Scalia for civility in public life. Hours after Justice Neil Gorsuch was sworn in to replace Scalia, Ginsburg took to the podium in calling on lawmakers to work together, but mistakenly identified South Carolina's senior senator as a woman.

"I thought back to the 1993 confirmation of my nomination to the court—the hearing was altogether civil, the vote was 96 to 3. For Justice Scalia, the vote was unanimous," Ginsburg said. "Let's hope members of Congress, the members that Allegheny College has already honored — Vice President Joe Biden and Senator John McCain, the women of the Senate, Senators Dianne Feinstein and Lindsey Graham — let's hope that they and others of goodwill will lead in restoring harmonious work ways."

Lindsey sounds like a woman's name to me.

Gender is what you want it to be now.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I wonder if I sent her a really nice Hallmark card asking her to retire if she would do so out of the kindness of her heart?

Maybe if you explain to her if she stays on the court you will take her out the same way you did Scalia, she will leave?  :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

You'd probably have to do that anonymously.

I doubt I'm quick enough to accomplish that task.

Ginsburg is a real piece of work but I can see why she made that statement. After all McCain and Graham are BFF's and we know who is the female in that relationship. Those two have really went off the deep end for quite a while now. They both should retire!

Can the old bag be removed if there is proof she has early stages of dementia?

Not really. Impeachment, brought by the House and a trial in the Senate (requiring 67 votes to convict), as for the president, is only based upon illegal conduct, not health issues. There is a long history of justices being incompetent mentally and physically to one degree or another, and staying on the bench, often until their death. Perhaps things would be different today with so much video/audio coverage of justices on and off the bench, but I'm sure anyone so suffering would be kept "under wraps" as much as possible to avoid public awareness of their degree of impairment. Great/depressing brief article at: https://jonathanturley.org/2007/08/30/through-addictions-to-dementia-supreme-court-justices-have-refused-to-step-down-the-need-for-reforming-the-supreme-court/

Henry Baldwin was confirmed in 1830, and within two years Daniel Webster warned of the “breaking out of Judge Baldwin’s insanity.” Baldwin missed the 1833 term, hospitalized for what was called “incurable lunacy.” He remained on the court for 11 more years.
