Did I get a good deal? Winchester 94AE Lever action.
« on: July 18, 2017, 03:50:13 PM »
My uncle had a Winchester model 94AE lever action 30-30 bought in the early 2000 brand new. It is the trapper model, 16" barrel, plain wood and receiver, nothing fancy. He never fired it and decided he want to get rid of it.

On the advice of one gun enthusiast of a value for $550-$650 me and my uncle settled on $450. I am wondering if I got a good deal or if I paid full price.  I know it is too late to make a difference but I was wondering if there were any lever action action enthusiasts.

If you want to sell it to me for $450 I'd jump on it!

Ya, good deal.   Try following a few trapper auctions on gun broker.

I think it really depends. If you bought it to resell then you did not get a good deal. I doubt you will get much more if any for it over what you paid. That is not to say it is not a good deal. If you wanted it and want it to shoot, and/or if you bought it to hunt with then I would say you paid what it is worth for today's market. If this had gone down a couple of years ago there would be tons of jealous drooling members here and I would be telling you that you got a hell of a deal. Paying what it is worth does not mean you didn't get a good deal. When the gun market comes back you may be able to sell it for more than what you paid. Overall I would say you paid what it is worth in today's slow market.

My 4 year old Blue Book puts the value at $550 for 98% and $675 for 100%.

You paid a fair price, & your money stays in the family.

You paid what you were willing and able to pay, and the seller took what he was willing to price it at.  Capitalism at work!

If you choose to sell it, what you paid doesn't affect its market value later.

Enjoy it, and forget about what it cost.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

Thanks,

I am actually happy with it. The .300 win mag I have is a little overkill for pig here in Hawaii so I am envisioning this as a pig gun for me in Hawaii.

A Trapper in .30-30 is a perfect gun for pig.

Not a "good deal", but you didn't over pay.
