When I first joined the Army, the 45 was being phased out and the Beretta was coming in ( 1991). After seeing a few M9 cracked slides, pitted barrels, etc., I grew to hate that POS. I know Berettas have improved, but can't bring myself to ever buy one based on my experience.
One thing about the article that misses the mark on is that I don't think the Glock or any pistol without a manual safety will ever be a mainstream issue weapon for the military.
Spec op units have carte blanche on what they purchase, but even the HK's used have manual safeties (USP and HK45), not all but most.
I also believe Beretta got awarded another huge contract for the M9, but that's another story.
The article mentions good pistols, but doesn't take military requirements into consideration. Hate to say it, but I don't think the M9 is going anywhere.
