Rain?
« on: March 03, 2012, 07:13:40 AM »
This might be a newbie question but is it a good idea to go to KHSC if it's raining?

I'm thinking that rain + paper targets = soggy target.

What's the wisdom against going anyway?

Also, does anyone know if it is raining out Hawaii Kai /Koko Head side this morning?

I think, therefore I am armed.

I don't let the rain influence me.  But then again, MY guns don't melt in the rain, and neither do I.  From what I can tell when I'm out there and the rain comes out, most shooters buy dissolving guns and are related to a famous wicked witch.

Sure, things get wet.  However, soggy targets still do their job.  Plus, there's less risk of them catching fire!
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

if you're worried about your target, get that plastic, carboard-like white boxing material...

Funny, but true.

Rain is great since the range is not as crowded.  It is almost as good as football season.  Especially the playoffs and Superbowl Sunday!   :geekdanc:

And, my rifles do not melt as I shoot in the rain.  Amazing . . .

It was not raining out there today and no waiting list!!!

BTW, it will rain tomorrow.  >:D

Lol great idea on this. It will save me $5 from buying the white cardboard box thingie.

Yes, it turned out to be nice at Kokohead this morning. Pistol range was full and my gun and target didn't melt.  :)

It is not breaking the rules as long as it does not have human picture/silhouette.  Correct?

I doubt it would last more than a minute or two though . . .

Just some food for thought.

Plastic backing with sticky targets versus cardboard and paper.  I got a lecture last year about recycling.  Won't affect my targets...............just sayin' :D

Anyhow...........rain, it's pretty neat to see how your equipment works and how much flash you can get depending on the loads you are shooting.  Plus as others are saying, it cuts down on the crowds.  Go shooting next time, just wear rain gear.

Better bring your boots (hip high boots preferably).  Rifle side also has a nice river flowing right through it.

The pistol side is dry under the cover but the pistol range is an absolute mess.  The rifle side is wet on almost all shooting stations because of the holes in the roof or the wind driven rain.  Prepare to get wet.  If it rains hard, very wet.  There were times that I would not want to cross the flow of water cutting off the downrange target area from the shooting benches even with boots as it was that bad.  If the rain stops the river gets to manageable levels.  Paper targets, forget about it.  By the time you get back from setting them up until the fire command, your targets will be toast.  The range is reserved today and tomorrow (Wed & Thur) in the AM until 11:30 so there is no range set up prior to that on the rifle range from the RSO booth headed down to the pistol side half of the rifle range.  Mike also related that on Thur another group is there in the AM also.

I am a hardcore shooter, but sometimes there are better things to do with your time.   :)
