Here is a thought, just a thought.  The most ardent anti gun people could be the most morally corrupt.  However, they do not think themselves to be corrupt or evil, they think they are good and just.  The basis for their fear of a firearm is when they look deep inside themselves and know that they cannot be trusted with the power that a firearm would provide because surely they would abuse it, just as they blatantly abuse their political power.  But remember, they think themselves to be good and they assume that all "good" people are corrupt like them.  They cannot and will not accept the possibility that their are better people than they.  It would destroy their entire belief system.
