So that story about the couple from the mainland who got shot at and 1 girl was hit by Dallas Kaahanui.  And then Dallas's body was found later after he "committed suicide".

That's actually my friends brother.  And on their FB pages, they posting things like the above.  I want to ask them, "well what was he doing with a gun illegally?".  And "why did he shoot at that couple"?

But I don't want to jeopardize the friendship, so I kept my mouth shut.

Kaahanui’s sister, Jen Kaahanui, told Hawaii News Now she believes there is more to the story.
She said her brother loved life and had lots of dreams and plans.

“Why we’re upset is they (HPD) basically classified it at as a suicide, but we know for a fact that
my brother would never do that,” she said. “He has an 8-month-old child, I was just with my brother
a couple days prior, he was supposed to help me move yesterday.”

Jen Kaahanui said she thinks something happened before that may have triggered the shooting.

Did anyone bother to browse online records for a criminal history?

 

Lots of restraining orders. Some as recent as Jan 2018 and Dec 2017. Not exactly the history that gets overlooked in a Hawaii-mandated background check. If he owned the gun prior to the TROs, he should have had it confiscated.

Damned laws! When will they finally start preventing crimes instead of just punishing people AFTER they are broken?
