As does requiring a NICS background check before the order is finalized and the other after the order is finalized.

And I imagine yet another check is done when you file paperwork with HPD for the permit....

I can see doing the NICS check at transfer on CMP's end, to reduce the number of returns from people who might fail the state-mandated background checks.  Doing a check before adding you to the sales list seems like more unnecessary work than running one final check.  Since many states do more intensive checks than just NICS (like Hawaii), even the CMP NICS checks won't guarantee a successful transfer.

Less is more.

The parts of the process that turned me off of supporting this offering are:

(1)  TWO NICS background checks -- one just to be placed on the list & one at transfer time once you are approved, and

(2)  No C&R 03 FFL transfers are allowed for CMP 1911 purchases.

I realize it's Congress creating these hurdles.

The C&R FFL restriction directly contradicts the purpose of the C&R license in the first place.  It's like paying for a liquor license only to be told you now have to get additional approval for each drink you pour.
^^^THIS^^^ Especially the C&R part.

Plus the fact the price is high. Even for a fair collector grade pistol.

Just curious if anyone else went for the CMP lottery?  I should be getting mine sometime soon.

In case anyone's wondering:
- looks like most pistols are reparked, mixmasters in good condition (no surprise right?)
- CMP let some gems slip through for those lucky folks - Heard of US&S pistols, some 1911s, and JSB inspector
- Gunbroker shows some completed listings in the $2000-2400 range, price of these pistols was 950 or 1050.
- roughly 20k entries, it will likely take 3 years to clear them all, assuming they release more pistols in the next 2 years.  With the current climate in congress, I think it's very unlikely more will be released within the next few years, let alone clearing the list over the next 5-10 years.

In the family and stored safely on the mainland so I don't have to register
with the local retards( HPD) and unknown to the Federal government.
#1 1943 Rand with a trigger job and all matching parts, Hand me down, got
it when My dad died.
#2 Don't have the exact year but a M1911 my grandpa flew with in
WWI when he shot at Germans, while flying in France, all original, and
virtually no wear. I carry it when I go salmon fishing in SE Alaska bear country.
Other than keeping the Democrats from destroying them why pay the very high prices
they are charging for CMP guns that they register to you?  And after this next session
of legislature will confiscate from you if any body claims you are a threat?
Just asking.
