Moving Sucks

Like the title said.  But it was for the better.  Moved from a very un-secure open air apartment, to a condo that has security and cameras and stuff.

Hardest part was moving the ammo and guns and safe under blanket.  Did it late at night so not to draw attention.  Didn't realize I didn't have enough cases to move the rifles.  So I left the AR in the safe and stuffed it with pillows and towels so it doesn't move around when driving.

I have to say, that I feel so much safer than the prior apartment.  Still have the same security set up, but now it's not that much of a big deal.  Just don't want to get a false sense of security now.  Even the wife feels a lot safer.

While moving, ran into a few other people who didn't cover their stuff so saw ammo cans in their carts.

Helped out move my son this past weekend.
The landlord was raising the rent by $1000, which is outrageous.
What, Me Worry?

Yup.  I hate moving.  I had a 2000 sq ft house in WA before moving back to HI.  Ended up giving a lot of stuff away.  My gun collection wasn't anywhere near where it is now.  That would have been a PITA to move what I have now from WA to HI.

I came from a 400sq foot apt.  I can't even imagine what it's like to move a house, let alone over the ocean.

My friend who moved to Vegas last week, just took a suit case.  He sold his home here and was like "fuck it".  Not shipping anything up.

When I moved here, the Air Force owed me a move -- to any state (not just to home of record) and within a year after separation. So, when my company looked at volunteers to move to Hawaii, my name trickled to the top partly because the Air Force saved them thousands on my move.

It's funny how many pounds of stuff you accumulate with a family for 9 years.  Furniture, rugs, cookware, dishes, clothes, appliances, and the heaviest crap to haul around: books and papers.  We bought furniture to last for decades, so beds, dressers, couches, recliners and so on were not flimsy and light.

Overall, the weight came out to about double what I'd estimated on my paperwork.  That's after 2 yard sales and a few giveaways of food, laundry products and anything else we couldn't ship, as well as "hold baggage" to live off of until household goods got delivered.

If/when I leave Hawaii, I'm going to be downsizing as much as possible. There's a lot to be said for simplicity and a decluttered life. Pay less for a smaller place, and just buy & resell/donate stuff as you need it rather than store it forever.

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
