This sounds more political and someone must be losing out on money from the the government based on a contract.

Commercial magazines are banned for the m4 carbines.  I guess all those officers, e-7's and above are devastated.  Never cared for after market magazines becouse  if i needed more i would just pick up some new ones from the armory.  I guess the other 86% is excluded from the new rule since we still use the m16a2's and m16a4's

Probably because your average soldier isn't expected to differentiate between a $17 Magpul PMAG and a $5 Chinese polymer "PMAG".
