And smoke and own guns. If they allow all of that, then I'm OK with them voting. You cannot pick and choose what rights to allow at various ages. Should all be 18 (legal age).
I was age 12 when I completed my first Hunter safety course(CA state) and was licensed
to hunt on my own, no supervision with shotguns and rifles. I owned guns at age 12.
My dad finally signed for my drivers license when I was 17, at the time in CA a parent
had to sign for your license if you were under 18. It took me that long to save
for and buy my own car and insurance.
I joined the USAF at age 17( Vietnam era). I really liked getting beer from vending machines in the barracks
(Illegal for me), I smoked two packs a day( illegal for me). I was working on Nuke armed B52's at age 18.
Kind of a rush siting in the command seat in the cockpit with the "AGM-69 ARM" switch just to my left.
All this stuff used to be quite common, so multiple age limits for different things are fair game.
Voting is where I put my foot down. I think the voting age should be at least 21, preferably 25.
Military is no longer a drafted force, so the argument for lowering the voting age to 18 goes away.
The government today is too overwhelmingly powerful to let the most immature and emotional of society
select how it will operate.
