We NEED you to call State Senator Jarrett Keohokalole’s office at 808-587-7215.
Senator Keohokalole’s office confirmed several Hawaii Firearms Coalition members visited their offices on the day of our rally and is awaiting MORE residents in his district to voice their concerns about the gun control bills now heading to the Senate Judiciary Committee for a hearing. Senator Keohokalole is Co-Chair of this committee that will soon be voting on these bills. These are the SAME BILLS many of us testified AGAINST last Thursday Feb 6th in front of the Senate Public Safety Committee. We managed to stop a few of them from advancing, but the ones remaining still pose a threat to our rights.
Residents in the above areas, PLEASE CALL SENATOR KEOHOKALOLE’S OFFICE at 808-587-7215, state that you ARE a constituent in his district and that you OPPOSE the following bills:
SB 2437
RELATING TO ELECTRIC GUNS.
Repeals the ban on electric guns. Establishes a regulatory structure for the sale and transfer of electric guns and electric projectile guns by licensed persons. Allows for the use of electric guns for self-defense, defense of another person, and protection of property. Restricts the use, storage, transfer, and disposal of electric guns. Requires training and education on electric guns and electric projectile guns. Prohibits certain individuals from possessing and using electric guns and electric projectile guns. Prohibits the use of electric guns in the commission of crimes. (SD1)
****HIFICO supports the legalization of Electric Guns, however we oppose permitting and registration for the owner, excessive regulations for the store to sell it (possible no store may sell it), and other regulations such as only the owner can use it (not even a spouse).
SB 2518
RELATING TO FIREARMS.
Establishes the Attorney General's authority, and clarifies the respective county police chiefs' existing authority, and requires the Attorney General to grant licenses to carry concealed or unconcealed firearms. Specifies training requirements for license applicants. Amends the fee from a perlicense to a per-application basis and increases the fee. (SD1)
****HIFICO supports the public carry of firearms, however we oppose this bill because it's Shall Grant for "EXCEPTIONAL CASES ONLY" so the regular person still will not get a permit. Also the annual fees and training requirements are burdensome.
SB 2519
RELATING TO FIREARMS.
Prohibits the manufacture, possession, sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition of detachable ammunition magazines with a capacity in excess of ten rounds, regardless of the type of firearm with which the magazine is compatible, except for magazines that was legally possessed prior to this Act. Requires every person in the State who possessed a large-capacity magazine prior to this Act to register the magazine with the appropriate county police department. Prohibits the sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition, except by means of inheritance, of such large-capacity magazines and requires the inheritor to update registration. Makes an exception for possession and use by law enforcement agencies and officers. Effective 1/1/2021. (SD1)
****HIFICO Opposes the rban on purchase of new magazines over 10 rounds and burdensome registration requirement.
SB 2635
RELATING TO FIREARMS AMMUNITION.
Requires a purchaser to present to a seller a valid government issued identification card and a valid permit to acquire a firearm, a handgun safety training course affidavit, or a hunter education card. Requires the licensing of sellers of ammunition, and for the identification and proper permitting of purchasers or possessors of ammunition. Regulates ammunition in the same manner that firearms are regulated. (SD1)
****HIFICO opposes this bill as this bill does nothing to stop crime and adds another regulation for law abiding gun owners. People without these documents cannot purchase ammo. Criminals can still get ammunition as it can be stolen, transferred through straw purchases, and other means.
SB 3054
RELATING TO FIREARM REGISTRATION.
Require the registration of firearms that are moved out of the State. (SD1)
*****HIFICO wants the bill to be amended to permanently remove the firearms registration data from all government databases.
