Any good "how to shoot" books?
« on: July 09, 2012, 08:43:13 PM »
I'm almost done reading Jeff Cooper's "To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth" and will be picking up his "Art of the Rifle" next.

Yes, I believe that going to the range, practicing and learning form other shooters is the best way to learn.... However, there has to be some good reading material for when KHSC is closed. :)

Can you guys recommend any good books on guns or on shooting?

Good thread. Thanks for listing books to check out. What I have learned is I am consistently inconsistent. Weird. Yes. Funny. You bet until I actually have to shoot something. This is for my riffle. Pistol is pretty good actually.

Oh, I think Massad Ayoob is also one of those authorities on guns although I do not know which of his books to read.  Any suggestions?

Why would you want to learn how to shoot books?  ;D. Sorry, had to read the title a couple times to understand what you were asking.  :stopjack:

If you have a laptop or portable DVD player, Magpul Dynamics' "The Art of the Precision Rifle" is a must-see.

"I was shooting scoped rifles since I was six years old. I shot animals out to 900 yards and I thought I knew what I was doing. It wasn't till I pushed a rifle out to 2000 yards that I realized I didn't know anything at all.."
-quote (what I remember...not exact words) from instructor in that video

I thought, "WTF, if he shoots accurately to 900 yards and admits he didn't know jack, I DEFINITELY need to learn!!"

Ayoob's Survival shooting and Stressfire series were required reading when I went through training. Most of his books are over 20 years old, but the techniques are sound.

But then again, some of the things that Ayoob covers are a little "advanced" and hard to visualize...Magpul Dynamics "Art of the Dynamic Handgun", might be a better choice for some.
