Pistol on Rifle range - any requirements?
« on: November 02, 2020, 04:25:03 PM »
About a year or 2 ago, an RO told me an optic is needed on your pistol to shoot on the rifle range.   Not sure if he meant magnified.  Is a rds ok?

One friend says he was allowed to shoot with irons.  He is an old timer and knows the ro’s pretty well.  First name basis and shooting for decades.

Does it just depend on the RO working that day?

Asking for another friend cause I can’t hit poop at 50 with a pistol

RDS are allowed. I don't see any exceptions to that rule, no matter who you know.

I was at the rifle range 2 weeks ago and the guy next to me was shooting a cap and ball revolver along with his AR rifle.  He didn't have optics.  Maybe cause it's not a centerfire pistol?
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

I was just shooting my Mark IV with green dot on rifle side yesterday.
had steel target at 100 yards.  RSO told me to shorten the chain bc target was too low, target might spin and ricochet the projectile.  but I saw black powder guys shooting steel at 50 yards and steel was hanging lower than my target.  and they weren't shooting 22LR at 50 yards at steel
I guess my name is Mudd over there.  maybe it does make a difference who you know.
I know a few RSO's pretty well, but I don't ask for any favors

An optic. Red dot or scope is all thats required. Not necessarily magnification.

Have to shoot it supported, like on the bench.
