i don't think i have to explain the average temperature here

Do these numbers just represent a snapshot in time? If so I am not sure how reliable that is because so many countries could be said to be doing terrible or doing great depending on the window picked.

When I checked the overall numbers the US has a case rate of 88,000 per million people while Israel had 84,000 per million. Pretty close however our death rate  is over twice that of the Israelis. 1,500 vs 600 per million.

There are so many variables, I am not sure what these numbers really show on a surface level?

of course it's a snapshot in time
omnigrub made the claim that the numbers were going down because of the vaccine and acquired immunity and "weather"
i chose the date where hawaii and the us peaked, the date israel peaked, and the current date
so then OG switched to "other factors" to avoid having to admit he was wrong...

Not sure how weather would factor into this but vaccine and herd immunity would make intuitive sense. There is a doctor on youtube who does a pretty good job of breaking things down and he also stated that  vaccine and herd immunity were to explain for at least part of the decrease in numbers. He didn't go deep into any numbers but I take him at his word because of the nature of many videos I have seen him make.

Still there are so many factors. Changes in rules, changes in whether people are following the rules, changes in testing rates, etc etc etc. I understand how it would be a bit of a jump to make any hard claim, I think a much more scientific way of putting it would be that vaccine and herd immunity appear to explain part of the reduction in numbers.

"there's a doctor on youtube"
that narrows it down...

while it is really hard to respect someone who refers to himself as "zdogg", that guy is pretty good
no one is disputing that it is "at least part of the decrease"
omni stated that it was the only reason, and then immediately started hedging when called out...

Zdogg is a play on his last name. His last name starts with Z IIRC and though "Dogg"doesn't exactly lend itself to credibility it seems to fit his humorous presentation.

I didn't follow your exchange real closely so I must have missed him claiming it was the only reason. I really don't think we can make a lot of hard statements about changes in covid, just probable explanations. Maybe in 5 years when we digest this whole thing we will have some harder answers.

Not really. I figured you were being sarcastic but I reply with a serious explanation anyway just in case and for context.

The very definition of "sarcasm is hard."

If you can't be sure, then sarcasm is not easy for you.

It was obvious to those among us who speak sarcasm.   :geekdanc:

Did you think that one up (then steal the image), or was this something given to you at your Annual Troll Awards Dinner?

I thought up "award for being a dick" and took the image from online. I figured it would be a little excessive to go craft a penis, paint it gold, tie a ribbon around it, then take a picture. I mean I like you but not that much.

You could have just posted a selfie.  We'd have gotten the same message!

You had the zoom too high.  10x normal should be enough to be visible.
