It would be interesting to know how much of a security clearance he is allowed in the performance of his duties and the information allowed therein on a need to know basis. Another question in my mind is if he has to pledge allegiance to the United States and should the time arise where he must make a choice between Australia's interest and the United States', which would take precedence particularly when the choice would be one or the other and to the others detriment?

Policies tend to change every four years.

Question:  Is this Australian 2-star in charge of an all-American group, or a joint-nation group?  I couldn't tell from the article.
