Well the numbers are in a little earlier this year. Seems a lot of you did more than your fair share and I must say *sniff, sniff* you did me proud. 2020 was a record year with over 26,000 permits applied for.

FIREARM REGISTRATIONS IN HAWAII, 2020
March 24, 2021 – The Department of the Attorney General released its annual report detailing statewide and county firearm registration statistics for calendar year 2020.

A record high total of 26,122 personal/private firearm permit applications were processed statewide during 2020, marking a 62.3% increase from 16,098 applications processed in 2019.  Of the applications processed in 2020, 95.8% were approved and resulted in issued permits; 1.4% were approved but subsequently voided after the applicants failed to return for their permits within the specified time period; and a record high proportion of 2.8% were denied due to disqualifying factors.

The 25,024 permits issued statewide in 2020 cover a total of 53,481 firearms registered throughout the year, resulting in a 35.5% increase from the 39,467 firearms registered during 2019.  Just under half (26,708, or 49.9%) of the firearms registered during 2020 were imported from out-of-state, with the balance accounted for by transfers of firearms that were previously registered in Hawaii.  Rifles and shotguns comprised 45.1% (24,126) and 10.6% (5,673) of total registrations, respectively. The remaining 44.3% (23,682) of firearms registered throughout 2020 were handguns.

Firearm registration activity increased dramatically over the course of the 21 years for which these data have been systematically compiled and reported.  From 2000 through 2020, the number of statewide permit applications annually processed increased by 302.5%, the number of firearms annually registered climbed 292.8%, and the number of firearms annually imported rose 269.5%.

Also in 2020, record high tallies of firearms registered and imported were reported for Maui County, a record high tally of firearms imported was reported for Kauai County, and a record high tally of permits processed was reported for the City & County of Honolulu.

The report, entitled Firearm Registrations in Hawaii, 2020, provides a range of additional statistics and analyses focused on firearm permits, registrations, and denials in the State of Hawaii and its four counties.

I thought Hawaii had 5 counties.   I guess the Leper colony is still
a forgotten place, by the government.

You have to get permission to purchase a gun - check.
Your guns must be registered so the government can track them - check.
You can't use guns in public to protect yourself - check.
If you use guns to protect yourself at your place of residence, business, or place of sojourn
you will be arrested and your guns confiscated - check.

Criminals don't have these problems - check.

Kalawao county is the smallest county in the 50 states both in terms of area and population size.

They are for the most part administered under Maui county for services, as they have no county government.

They have a mayor and a sheriff, but not at the county level.

The Oahu numbers should be way higher, but do to the shitty RSVP system, many were not able to.  Easily in the thousands.

I was at HPD HQ registering yesterday. I saw the appointment list when they were crossing off my name, 50% of the boxes before me weren't crossed out, no shows? wasted slots? I was their only customer for the 25 mins it took to wait and sign. 2 guys behind the window were happy and very rested. Ghost town, I didn't think to look over at the permit side to check the flow.

I haven't been successful so far getting a PTA.  :(  My long gun permit expires in July.

We should all submit a FOIA request for all of the registration appointments showing total appointments, total used and total abandoned.

*start rant* While I know they can't give names, but I would love to know how many were taken by the same person, (i.e.: certain gun stores with the ability to get you an appointment the next day with purchase). That would be a store I would definitely lobby against shopping at as they hurt the entire 2A community. I get they are a business, but if they are taking appointments just to make sales, screw them. There are lots of people on this forum that are unable to make private purchases or get/renew LG permits or register due to others hoarding appointments. *end rant*

There is a thread on this board where someone explained how to get best results via the HPD appt website. The instructions do work, but you have to have the time to camp a bit on the page.

What's the exact expiration date?  They normally tell you not to apply for renewal more than 2 weeks before that date -- the renewed permit will be ready on/after the expiration date.

For example, if yours expires July 1, you can apply 2 weeks before, making it June 17.

Figure out what that date is so you can quickly book any appointment you find that's at least that far in the future.  I have a June 15 appointment I can offer, but that's going to miss the example date above by 2 days -- more if your actual expiration date is later than July 1.

Perhaps you're not aware that the Emergency Proclamations issued by Moron Ige specifically state that no state or county agency or individual needs to respond to any Uniform Information Practices Act (UIPA) requests for the duration of the "EMERGENCY!!!".

How convenient. Wanna find out what data is used to determine exactly how the positive RT-PCR tests are run (i.e. threshold cycles), how many of the positive tests were asymptomatic, how many of the positve tests were followed by confirming viral culture (i.;e. the rate of false positive tests), what data/evidence the counties/state/DOH/etc. used to come up with the "correct" "social distance", the "SAFE" indoor and outdoor (changing) gathering sizes, the "SAFE" number of people per square foot in retail stores, what specific criteria are set for rescinding the various SAFETY mitigation mandates, what real world randomized controlled trials served as evidence for "mask" mandates, etc., etc., etc.? Too bad, sucker!

My permit expires July 24th.  I'll keep trying.  Thanks for the offer!

All these registration problems should be moot if our officials follow the common sense most are blessed with.  Witness what one town did and the astounding results by requiring gun ownership by every head of household.  Worth the read:  https://www.patrioticretirementclub.com/daily-news/in-1982-one-georgia-town-required-everyone-to-own-a-gun-heres-what-happened/
