Both Registration and PTA walk in - 1 day
« on: August 13, 2021, 06:03:15 PM »
Under the new walk in to make an appointment, is it possible  (realistically) to register stuff I already picked and apply for pistol and longarm permits in one day.  Ie. Can I sign up on both lists at the same time in the morning.   Ie.  Not 2 separate lines.
Thanks!

Edited to add:
Hpd called me and said I couldn’t apply for a new permit till after I registered the stuff I had.   So I was hoping to get a registration appt early and a PTA appt after that.  So ideally, get register appt and later PTA appt, nap in car till registration, register, put stuff in car, nap till PTA appt

I understand it as walking in to make an appointment.  I may be wrong….as usual

HPD full of shit. One is not dependent upon the other. They just want to make it more difficult for you. No different than going to the store and and the butcher telling you that you can't order meat for next week until you eat what you have in the fridge.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me, than a frontal lobotomy.

Yup.

OP - Maybe miscommunication.  I haven't done what you mentioned, but know folks who have.  Where I was with them when they did their PTA and later went to pick up and come back to register the same day.

If you have a permit, you can register whatever you picked up using that permit.

If you need another permit, there's nothing stopping you from applying anytime you want.  If you can get to the counter, they'll process your application.

The LAW says you can have firearms at the police station.  If HPD says you can't have them at the Permit line, they need to accommodate you with a place to check them into a secure area while you conduct official police business -- i.e. apply for a firearm permit.

Quote
[§134-24]  Place to keep unloaded firearms other than pistols and revolvers; penalty.  (a)  Except as provided in section 134-5, all firearms shall be confined to the possessor's place of business, residence, or sojourn; provided that it shall be lawful to carry unloaded firearms in an enclosed container from the place of purchase to the purchaser's place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places upon change of place of business, residence, or sojourn, or between these places and the following:

     (1)  A place of repair;

     (2)  A target range;

     (3)  A licensed dealer's place of business;

     (4)  An organized, scheduled firearms show or exhibit;

     (5)  A place of formal hunter or firearm use training or instruction; or

     (6)  A police station.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

This part is messed up.  MIght want to contact HIFICO.  But all depends if it was 1 cop who told you who doesn't know what he's doing, or dept policy.

Depends on the day.  If the PTA side is open or not.  Sometimes closed, so all in same side.  At least from what I've seen.

Not sure if this will help but I'd like to share my experience when I went on Thursday, August 12th for PTA:

After missing the cut-off on the first day (Tuesday, August 10th) I arrived at 5:40 am on Thursday the 12th.  I was 10th in line.  The line started to grow quickly, and it snaked almost to the end of the above-ground park next to HPD headquarters.  A little after 7 am 1 uniformed officer and 2 plain clothes officers started telling the long line that those who are here to register firearms must form a separate line over here.  So now they are trying to form two lines: one for PTA and one for register.

Very few (less than 20 at that time of the morning) started to form a registration line.  The guy who was number 11 behind me in the PTA line also had his rifle with him slung over his shoulders (in a case of course).  He politely asked the uniformed cop if he could get a time slot for PTA and also get back in the other line for a registration time slot.  The cop told him no, he has to choose then come back another day for the other transaction.  The cop mentioned he cannot bring his rifle into the PTA office and also mentioned by the time he got his PTA slot most likely he won't make the registration cut-off.  Or something like that since it was a bit chaotic and caused confusion when they tried to make 2 lines.

Anyway my time slot for PTA was 9:30.  When I was done I came out of PTA and the guy behind me in line for time slots was waiting to go in.  He didn't have his rifle on his shoulders.  Not sure if he was able to get a later time slot for registration although I don't see why not, there wasn't that much people in the morning that wanted to register but there was a shitload of citizens wanting to exercise their 2a rights to obtain firearms and sadly a whole bunch of them were refused and told to come back another day.  I was one of them on Tuesday the 10th.  I arrived at 6:40 and the line got cut off with 2 people ahead of me. :grrr:

And to think people still think this system is better than appointments.

I can only hope that the lawsuit fixes many of these issues and we get appointments back.

Passed by HPD this morning around 0630.  There was a line from the corner of the building to past the elevator, and looked like well beyond.  I would guess over 50 folks.  Was anyone here in that line?  Or can confirm that's the line to try to get the numbers at 0700?

I parked in the underground municipal garage right after Alakea Alapai. That early in the morning there are public metered stalls but you don't have to feed them until 8:30.

They start handing out time slots after 7 am so if you get lucky and get a time slot around 8 am make sure you feed the meter even though a bit early to play safe.

Just wanted to correct my mistake about the parking.  The underground municipal garage is right after Alapai and not Alakea like I mentioned a while back.
