How embarrassing for 2 stupid adults to be rescued by a 12 yr old kid.

yup
I would at least buy that kid a new shirt.

Give the stretcher shirt to the stupids as a gift-reminder to not be stupid.

Big Mahalo for the 12 year old boy.

The cell phone probably died to the nearest cell tower being too far away, or, the junky batteries they supply in most phones. I bought two compasses and a Garmin Fenix watch with topo maps to avoid this type of situation. But, with my luck, I would still get lost. Who uses a Garmin Etrex in HI, and how long does the battery last?

It's easy enough to carry a crank radio or flashlight that also charges USB devices.

It's not that difficult to plan ahead nowadays.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
