Honolulu Marathon 12/12
« on: December 10, 2021, 09:31:57 AM »
Expect road closures or delays.

Estimated is 14,000 runners, compared to the pre covid of 33,000.  2020's one was cancelled.

Expect the starting line area (Aloha Tower) roads to be closed. The last marathon (2019), HPD would not let you in to go home even if you tell them u live in X home/building.  So you have to go get breakfast till about 6am or so.  I dropped my dad off at 4:30am and was screwed. I ran into another neighbor at Zippy's who was killing time cause he just finished work and wasn't allowed home.

Usually Kalanianaole is pretty good, they set up a portion of the road so traffic is still allowed down the hwy.

I've headed out to KHSC on marathon days in the past and it's not that bad, depending on what time (Capt Obvious action) and donkey's on the road at the same time.

When I first moved into my condo, the fireworks at 4-5 am ish surprised me.  Being fast asleep on a Sunday morning, then fireworks going off while still dark.  Getting up and be like  :wtf:

This year, prob going to just stay away from all that. . .
