Inter-county gun buying
« on: October 21, 2012, 04:24:05 PM »
In another thread, it sounds like Mauiboi flew into Oahu to buy some toys, assume his permits were from Maui county.  How does inter-county permit stuff work?  I have a long gun permit here on the BI, could I go to Honolulu and pick up something with that, or does the permit need to be from the county the shop is in?  IOW, is the permit for the issue county only or good for the state?

If it is a handgun, how do you travel between islands so you can present it at the local county firearms counter?  I guess you do have a paper permit by that time?  That flying back and forth could get expensive.  Better to have it shipped to a local FFL I guess.

I hate this permit crap.  Though I gather California is far worse now.  Should have kept all my toys when I moved here years ago.  Why in hell did I give up my Glock 17, HK USP 40, two Ruger .44 mags, etc.

When buying long guns we have to fax over your purchase to your local PD. When you get back you can go in and register it.  handgun is the same. But with the 2 week wait. It is easier for us to send your gun to your local FFL and deal with it there.

Ah, so the long gun can be brought back if the fax has been sen to deal with local stuff later.  Was concerned multiple flights might be involved.

Pisses me off the Superferry got shut down.  Would have bee nice to go stock up on ammo and stuff without the shipping hassle.  Cannot recal what the SF rules were about firearms and ammo on board though, so mebbe a moot point.............
