Check your Statements
« on: February 26, 2022, 09:55:45 AM »
My wife is going through her credit card statement, she was notified that there were suspicious transactions and the account was frozen.  There were a many small transaction, so she is now going through each transaction and asking what did i buy, i need to see the receipt, i have to now justify each purpose or why am I buying this.  OBOY.  It almost slipped out, " what about your ..." then that little voice/filter saved me.

She heard that the R are stepping up their cyber attacks.  We should all be more vigilant or be sure to checking your statements.  I have a few accounts that I don't normally use that I started checking monthly.

You are lucky that your credit card company caught the transaction. When I started buying weapon accessories on a Capital One card, I got text messages from the bank every time an internet transaction was made. I had to immediately confirm the purchase with a reply to the text message. See if your bank will allow you to use this feature. The spammers go through VPNs to make it appear that a transaction originated in the states, so the banks have to rely on metrics and 2-factor authentication to determine bogus charges.
Bottom line: the number one hacker of my credit cards is . . . my wife. She uses a card to pay for overdue real estate taxes, dresses, party hats, etc. Why couldn't I be married to Charlize Theron?

Everybody should check every transaction. ALWAYS!
Get printed statements, don't ever go all paperless.
My credit unions and charge cards are set up to notify
me me of anything strange or large transactions( greater than $300).
Always keep a years worth of cash for food and other stuff on hand
in the event of bank failures.  Granted the government can fuk that
up like they did in India but at least it didn't go un-noticed, like a cyber
attack may do to you.

I had “someone” for. Ghana try to link one of my credit cards to an Apple Pay account. Pretty elaborate too. Got a bunch of texts warnings and calls. My credit card company caught and locked things up. Funny thing is that the unlock process was probably more strenuous than opening a new account.

I have also seen a couple of credit unions send me notice of account audits and to verify total. I have a few accounts that I rarely touch, some for many years since I last touched them.

Just an FYI stay away from Capital One. They are forcing all their customers to hand over biometric data.

So, how would they do that?

Do not lick your envelopes when mailing the bill?
