Leave those Americans there; have some unidentified (Mercenaries) snipers or demolition experts kill some Americans; blame the Russians; then WWIII is on.

If there is a consulate or embassy, we protect that plot of land as if it's American soil.

So, if there are still Americans there, it's our duty to evacuate them using the military or any other means.

Do we need to wait until another Benghazi erupts?  We were the last foreign mission left there after all the other nations had pulled out following increased attacks in the area.

It's stupid to remain until the attacks are in the streets and at the gate.  That's like waiting to fire only after someone fires at you.

Situations are fluid.  Escort vehicles/troops, additional security around the evac areas, drivers for those without transportation. extraction from hostile areas, etc.

When a location is being evacuated, the military provides a great number of services as needed.

Flights can remain commercial as long as available seats aren't a problem.  Airport security can be an issue, too.  Many foreign airports have terrible security.  We may decide to use military vs. commercial air just to avoid the possible threat of someone trying to bring down a plane full of Americans.
