Magpul SL Mid Length Hand Guard Install

Ever since Magpul released the Slime Line carbine length hand guards, I've always wanted one in Mid Length. I debated on wether or not I want to keep the regular MOE, Free Float, or go Mid SL.

The reason I have to take this thing apart is I have to change out the existing triangle endplate for a circle endplate. Youtube has a couple good videos on how to remove the A2 front sights.I was skeptical, but I took a chance and photo documented my small victory, I really like the way the SL looks!

First I had to take off the MOE hand guards and bird cage

After removing the front sling loop, I took out the pins holding the front sight to get to the triangle endplate.

Finally removed everything. The biggest pain was removing the tapered pins. The front sight came off by hand, no tools required and didn't have to remove the gas tube pin.

Here's a couple pictures comparing the SL and MOE.  The new mid length hand guards were not as tight or hard to install as some forums online said. Maybe I got lucky.

I put on a Strike Industries JP comp and a Magpul angled grip.

It ended up being really easy and simple to change out and I'm no AR-15 pro builder. I'm am really liking this over the MOE hand guards.

Good job! That handguard gives the rifle an upgraded look. I really like it.
