A friend brought up a good point, once it changed from an active shooting to a barricade situation, the doctrine to go Leroy Jenkins changes.

I like know how come he knew his radio wouldn't work in the school hallways.  What kind of radio did he have that doesn't work in hallway buildings.

All I know is that in the 90's when I worked construction high rises and at the airport terminal, the cheap motorola radios we had worked just fine.  I remember working on the 19th floor of Nuuanu Parkside in Nuuanu and I could hear the First Hawaiian Building crew at Fort Street just as if they were in the next room.

And yes, I know schools and federal buildings are built to a higher standard where the structure can withstand natural disasters so are built more solidly but I worked the Airport and Convention Center where the walls are like the Hoover Dam and those cheap Motorolas worked just great.

And it's hard for me to buy the explanation about the radio would hinder his maneuverability.

Very true but if there were injured people in the room he was barricaded in then mere containment isn't an acceptable option. I wonder if their active shooter training covered that aspect?
