Goodbye Cheap Electricity
« on: June 26, 2022, 10:41:17 PM »
Looks like things are about to get a whole lot more interesting in September. The last coal power plant is shutting down in Kapolei, taking 10% of our power generation with it. What's going to fill the gap? Oil that's 5x more expensive until magical mystery renewables hopefully come online somehow someday.

In other words get ready for sky high power bills and rolling blackouts

And more crime and violence.

Hate to be a negative nellie but people nomo money anymore.  Everything just goes up and up.

Easy for talk re-newables but there is no infrastructure.  And there still is no infrastructure.  Yet the asshats at our State Capitol make laws that we need to have re-newables ready to replace the fossil fuel generators when we shut them down.

Great point. What happens when the lights go out and security systems stop working? Nothing good.

My last check BI electricity was $0.38 per kWh.
That is not cheap.
In line with all other fuel cost rises
I"d expect that to double, just to keep the Democrats happy.
I really don't give a fuk about people that can't afford that.
I hope they leave.
They elected the shit that brought us to this point.
Maybe once the Democrats are gone we can fix Hawaii.

When will the oversized electric golf kart driver have to pay for their charges?
Are the rest of us now paying them to drive their virtue signaling toys?

Plan for electricity costs to be 10x.

Bill Gates even said as much during one of his talks years ago.

He said 10x won't affect people like "you and me" (speaking to the audience) but it will have a huge effect on most people in the world.

Meanwhile, food prices will also go 10x.

So you can either prepare for this scenario, or ignore it.

Look at your utility bill.

Seems like the rates have been going up MONTHLY for a couple of years at least!

"So what can we do about it at home besides getting ready to write bigger checks to Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO)?

HECO vice president Jim Kelly suggests to “really be embracing the idea of conservation,” especially during peak hours. Between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., don’t be cranking on the air conditioner, taking long showers, running the oven, or whatever else that requires electricity and water. And while blaming Putin might provide a few minutes of gratification, it won't do anything for the accelerated depletion of your bank account."

The silver lining on this cloud is that it happens BEFORE the general election and not after.
