This may have already been answered, but I have to be 100% does the Texas Hunter-ed certification work, I already have this certification. To acquire fire arm for pistol
I took the pistol class awhile back and they didn't add the suffix to my name on the affidavit and I had no issues registering my firearms in the past, but I went this week and it was an issue, but I have my texas hunter-ed certification will this work instead?

thank you

(g)  Effective July 1, 1995, no person shall be issued a permit under this section for the acquisition of a pistol or revolver unless the person, at any time prior to the issuance of the permit, has completed:

     (1)  An approved hunter education course as authorized under section 183D-28;
Quote
§183D-28  Hunter education program.  (a)  The department shall establish a hunter education program to provide instruction in hunter safety, principles of conservation, and sportsmanship.  Upon successful completion of the program, the department shall issue to the graduate a hunter education certificate which shall be valid for the life of the person.  This certification shall be rescinded by judicial action upon the conviction of a wildlife and/or firearms violation.  No person shall be eligible for a hunting license unless the person possesses a valid hunter education certificate or meets the requirements for exemption provided in subsection (b)(2), and is either:

     (1)  Born after December 31, 1971; or

     (2)  Born before January 1, 1972, and has never been issued a hunting license in the State.

     (b)  A person who meets the minimum age requirements adopted pursuant to subsection (c) shall be exempt from the requirements of subsection (a) if the person:

     (1)  Was born before January 1, 1972, and at one time possessed a hunting license issued by the State; provided that the person shows satisfactory proof to the department that the person had possessed the hunting license;

     (2)  Has successfully completed a course or program of hunter education and safety that is approved by the International Hunter Education Association and meets the requirements of Chapter 12 of the United States Fish and Wildlife Service Federal Aid Manual, as revised; provided that the person shows satisfactory proof in the form of a certificate, wallet card, or other document issued by a state, province, or country evidencing successful completion of the course or program; or

It's a little vague, but my interpretation is, you can be issued a hunting license if you have an approved out-of-state Hunter's Ed certificate or card.  That doesn't automatically translate into a valid certificate for a Permit to Acquire application.  However, I guess you could argue the course is "authorized under section 183D-28," if it is allowed for hunting in Hawaii.  Nothing says the course must be the Hawaii-administered course.

HPD will let you know what they accept or don't.  Chances are, they will not accept non-Hawaii Hunter's Ed cards.

As for the affidavit, if you can contact the trainer, maybe they can issue a replacement letter with the corrected name.  If it was their mistake, they should be willing to make it right.  Worth a try.  They might also take the position that you should have caught that when the affidavit was picked up.

Thanks for the response, so I am taking the online hunter-ed for hawaii, but in the name field they only require First/Last same with texas. I don't see anywhere where I can input my middle or Suffix to match my passport or drivers license, how will this even benefit me if my affidavit is only missing my suffix.

Thank tho

Sounds like whoever at HPD helped you last is being less than helpful.  I checked my affidavit, and the only personally identifiable information that associates me with that paper is my name:  First MI Last.

No social security number, no date of birth and no address.  I would think if they really cared about matching affidavits with people, there would be a bit more info than my name on the paper, huh?  Is there really nobody on island with the same name?

I haven't taken the hunters Ed course, but the sample card online shows First & Last but nothing else.

If it were me, I'd ask to talk to a supervisor and explain the problem.  If the online course application and Hunters Ed card don't accommodate MI or Suffix, then HPD policy should not require them simply because your picture ID is more accurate.

It's an administrative snafu they could easily solve if they wanted to.  Instead, they are jerking you around for no legitimate reason.

Don't get angry.  Just talk to someone who sets policy rather than someone who just follows it.

Not saying they'll make an exception, but you might be making life easier for yourself and all those Jrs, Srs, and 3rds that come after you.   :thumbsup:
