Unsettled issues
Hawaii issues carry licenses that must be renewed every year and are only valid in the county of issue, therefore a license holder can only carry in one's home county.

Additionally, even though the Bruen ruling put an end to the state's "exceptional case" requirement making them a shall-issue jurisdiction, the local authorities have refused to process applications until they receive guidance from state, which has stated they are waiting on the Hawaii State Legislature to pass new laws to subvert the Bruen ruling before allowing new applications to be processed.

Wikipedia allows anyone to submit updates to their content.  I'm sure some Liberal will eventually read that and submit a "correction."

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

yeah, wikipedia, starting a few years ago, has taken a very definitive liberal slant.

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately.  I'm resigning my position with HIFICO next month so I'm transitioning the team to take over legislative affairs, as you've seen from changemyoil.

This year has been unexpected post Bruen.  It was expected that gun control legislation would drastically drop, but it's gone the other way here and nationally.  Similar to how Heller was ignored.  Combine that with a more liberal State legislature here.  A few more Republicans are in office now, but many of our gun rights leaders in the legislature have left while the legislature is slightly more liberal now.  I expected HB984/SB1230 would've been cut in half, but they are largely in tact except for the insurance requirements.  I didn't think HB426 (firearm industry) would pass, but it's sailing through and the gun stores aren't opposing it.
.
One thing to keep in mind, the only reason we push for testimony is that we failed to do everything else we're supposed to do.  Such as talking to legislators throughout the year, educating the public, getting involved with elections, etc.  Pushing testimony is largely a last resort type of thing.

What appears to be a juggernaut is actually desperation. This is the last stand of the establishment so they are throwing everything they have out there trying to cling on to power. Once the banking crisis contagion spreads and the pension system goes down even their rigged election system won't save them. But that also means at least a couple years of social chaos where the cops will be overwhelmed. You got us to a good place and I think you for that. More importantly you showed us that small guys can make a difference when we work together. We're going to need those networks as essential government services fall away and we are increasingly left to fend for ourselves.
If you allow government to break the law for an "emergency" they will create "emergencies" to break the law.

Truth be told, I have some anxiety, with your departure from HIFICO.  You've been our standard bearer, carrying the flag forward, leading the charge, rallying the troops.  Your leadership has been crucial and indispensable.  A lot was accomplished with your organization skills, sort of like herding cats, I guess.  Couldn't have done it without you, the few victories we got, and we are appreciative, for sure.  We all thank you for your tireless work and contribution to Hawaii 2A.  whatever you're embarking on, wherever you are going, we wish you the best of good fortunes.

I hope that everybody who takes advantage of the HPD Firearms Wednesday evening hours, PTA by email, on-line registration, appreciates HIFICO as they enjoy these conveniences, or at least a "thank you Jesus" for these changes.  Before your arrival on the scene, we couldn't have even imagined such earth-shaking concessions from HPD.  simply, wow!

So sorry.  I'm relatively new to this forum.  What is "HIFICO"?

So HIFICO is Hawaii Firearms Coalition.  They started about 5 years ago and is a local 2a group that focuses on law stuff.  No firearm training.

They are pretty much the only org doing stuff for the 2a lawsuit wise.

Tasers are legal because of them.
Emailed permit to acquire
Online reg for FFL purchases
Ownership of guns if you have a minor assault charge
Ownership of guns if your a permanent resident alien
Ownership of guns if you're a US territory living in HI (American Samoa example)
There might be more, but I can't remember of the top of my head.

Pending lawsuits
Needing a medical clearance for mental health check for non-violent stuff (homesick sailor)
Baton lawsuit
Butterfly knife lawsuit
Pistol mag lawsuit
Permit to acquire lawsuit
Open carry lawsuit

So far the state has not won a single lawsuit that HIFICO has presented since HIFICO was created.  The state is even defying a judges order with the online reg for ONLY FFL purchases.  The order doesn't just say FFL.  It should be applied to private party as well.

HIFICO also quarterbacks when testimonies are due for hearings.  Follow their Facebook since that's the most active.  I highly suggest that you join as the membership dues help with lawsuits.

The other orgs doing lawsuit stuff is the one mentioned on the PBS special. 2ALC who did the CCW lawsuit that was won.  And right now NAGR has an assault pistol and pistol mag lawsuit. The hearing is on Friday at 10am.

I may have missed some. But this is why I said above HIFICO is pretty much the only ones doing legal stuff.  I'm sure sensitive places is the next to be worked on.

They did more in the past 5 years than everyone else in the past 40

Thank you so very much for taking the time to write such a good summary.  I used to be more into the NRA stuff back like 20 years ago.  We went to testify in person for CCW, back pre-2004 when John Lott came and testified.  We have since gotten busy with life, as it goes.  But we will certainly join the HIFICO.

Will there be a FireMission posting alerting us to this pistol mag hearing this Friday?

Friday is a court hearing, not televised.  Public is welcome to attend to observe.  It's at the Federal court at 300 ala Moana Blvd.
