The BLNR had considered revoking the permit for the fireworks display over pollution concerns, with one board member recalling what her young son had told her.

“We talked about the (agenda) item and he was like, ‘Mom, fireworks are so fun! How could you vote against that?” said BLNR member Aimee Barnes.

But the board unanimously approved the permit for another year, saying that the company had stepped up in its cleanup procedures.

Hawaii Explosives and Pyrotechnics will have to go before the BLNR again next May.

Lucky ting residents no need permits from BLNR for aerial fireworks.....

We've been having very loud aerials go off about one a week since the beginning of August, normally on Friday night and sometimes continuing on Saturday and Sunday.  A couple went off last night and rattled my windows!   :shake:

At least if it's a "firework holiday," we can be prepared for the noise.  These random, massive explosions need to stop.

They go after the company that is setting off fireworks in a lawful, safe, and responsible manner.  One company.

But thousands upon thousands of illegal aerials are set off by ainokea residents each year, releasing those harmful toxins the BLNR is grumbling about and who knows how much residue falls back onto people's roofs and yards meanwhile putting the health of the vulnerable with respiratory illnesses at risk.

You BLNR folks crack me up.

Just like regulating us normal gun owners.
Rules don't apply to the illegal guys, which is where the real problem is.

Just had another volley at 9:58pm.

I have a theory they are trying to expend their stockpile before the rockets hit their "Best by" dates.

Any reason will do, right?

12:45-ish AM

One really loud BOOM, followed by a dozen or more POPS spaced about 3 seconds apart.

Why do these people think it's okay to disturb EVERYBODY'S peace and quiet (and sleep) to set off ILLEGAL fireworks?
