Expect traffic, esp if going to the range.

Typically, after a certain time, they have the runners on the side of Kalanianaole Hwy, but IDK if this is all race because I've never driven in the morning. 

If you're in Kakaako, you won't be able to leave the area until about 7am-ish.  I learned this the hard way as I was on the way to a HRA skill builder and was boxed in.  I tried going thru Chinatown/downtown, Waikiki (Fort Derussey) and had no exit out of Waikiki.  I got to the skill builder late.  Another time, I left early as I took my dad to the race, but I was unable to get back into Kakaako. So I went to Zippys to eat breakfast in Kapahulu.

Yep ....Traffic to khsc is bad on marathon day.
What if the range were to have special hours on that day?
How about 12 to 6pm?

I drove to KHSC once during the marathon. It was about noon or later. The traffic wasn't too bad, but definitely slower than normal.

I wonder, would it be worth it if those driving to the range from the west side approach it from Waimanalo way?

The day I took my NRA Handgun Safety class, we had to deal with the marathon traffic.  So, the instructor advised us to go through Waimanalo.

It seemed like the trip was taking forever!  luckily, they gave us a really long lunch break to drive it -- about twice what they normally give students to make it there.

Depending on where you're starting from, going with the Marathon traffic is probably at least as fast, if not faster.

Going in the afternoon wasn't that bad. THe runners are already coming down Kalanianaole heading toward Kahala.  And they're on the side of the road heading toward HK.  I went late enough that it was the walkers and the fire fighters in their gear.
