Looking for an AR...would prefer HK MG552, but no sure I want to spend 3 grand (Read 5593 times)

I have been stationed here in Hawaii for almost three years. Getting ready to PCS in August (ish). Anyway, I finally talked my wife in to letting me get my AR and 1911. I will probably wait to get my 1911 until I get to the mainland. If I don't act fast, she may change her mind...

So I want an AR. Where is a good place that I can get a good AR and not get the special "haolie" price? What is available here and what pricing?

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

finding an AR here, now is going to be tough, but ogc has fair prices.  they wont fuck you over for being military.  actually, i dont think anyone will, although i heard daniel at KGS doesnt like military that much, but i've never seen it.

i'd look at the classifieds to see who's selling right now.

If the price is going to change, military should get a discount. Have some eff'ing respect!!  :wtf:

from the shops ive been to, no one i've interacted with would be enough of a dick to raise prices for out of staters.

None of the shops on Oahu would raise the price because someone is military or because they're a Haole. Lets just dispel that stupid crap here and now.

Prices for rifles sold at the in stores are based on total cost to dealer plus their % markup. The problem is the distributors have raised their prices and in some cases the manufacturers have as well.

Now is a rough time in firearms. With gun bans looming, you might not be able to buy an AR type rifle in a couple of months. I guarantee you that you wouldn't be grumbling about the price at that point.

Many many years ago my Grandfather and Grandmother bought a house in the "Diamond Head" area. They were told how stupid they were for paying so much. They were ridiculed by their friends and family because they paid more than anyone else had ever heard of for a house. They didn't care though what others thought. Even though they paid a premium price for their purchase, they were happy because it was exactly what they wanted. Years later, the purchase appreciated in value and they weren't looked at as "fools" anymore.

The price they paid for their home?   3000 dollars.

The moral of the story is, if you want something and can afford it, buy it.

I did not mean to offend...my apologies. I had an issue when I first got here when I went to get some work done on my vehicle. Found out I paid a crap ton more than I should of. My original post was worded very badly and I do apologize for offending anyone. I guess what I really should of said, I am looking to buy an AR and where is a good place to go for both availability and affordability.  I think I will go check out OGC (is that correct?). Thank you for your help and I do apologize again for being a dick!

You are spot on with the might not be able to buy one soon. So price is not a huge issue, I just want a decent AR that I can modify later if I want. Thanks again.

it isnt your fault.  there are indeed some businesses that will take advantage of you if they think they can.

Aside from picking the worst time in history to buy an AR, the shops I would hit would be;

OGC
Security Equipment
X ring
Gun Source
Young Guns
Kaneohe Guns
Don't know about Windward

In that order.
OGC seems to get a lot more stock than others, especially for AR's. I'm military too and OGC has given me great deals. I don't think any of the shops would really stick you with the exception of Honolulu Firearms, they will rip you off.

If you have the cash and patience you'll find something. Seems that the higher end AR's are sticking around a bit longer because everyone is pouncing on the $1500 DPMS's with the Larues, Noveskes, etc staying in stock a bit longer ( $2000 plus).  Be sure to get on OGC's tweet notifications.

Good luck!

Hahaha..I totally feel you on the worst time in history to purchase! I wasn't me...my wife finally stopped giving me a hard time and agreed. I think a trip to OGC is in order this weekend! Thanks for the information, thank you all for all of your help!

Windward is fine (Joe & Henry) but their niche is really reloading.
