I was cleaning out my car the other day, and was giving to thought for all the various knick-knacks I've accumulated in there.  Here's my list of "survival" gear in my car, what do you guys carry?

             

• 4D Maglite with LED bulb - It's very practical to have a flashlight in the car.  I like maglites for their sturdy metal design.  This serves as both illumination and if need be a self-defense weapon.   
   
• 3AA 9 LED flashlight - This is one of the cheap ones that Home Depot has on sale every now and again.  I figure where one light is good, two lights are better. 
  
• Digital Camera - I leave this camera in the car.  It's an older model, but what I love about it is it has a nightshot/nightvision mode both for pictures and video, which is nonexistent in newer cameras (something about using nightshot during the day could make peoples' clothes translucent and the pervs were taking advantage).  Anyhow this is for protecting my assets.  In the result of an accident, crime or major disaster I have a camera on hand to doccument the events that works both during the day and night.  Most people use their cell phones for this purpose, but I reason that with a phone I have to choose between contacting and being on the line with police or emergency services OR documenting what is happening.  With a camera, I can do both. 
  
• Small Toolkit - I have a small tool kit with a selection of socket wrenches and screwdrivers appropriate for the parts of my car.  I also have zipties and duct tape for if I ever need to "Macgeyver" a temporary fix. 
  
• Folding knife - For basic survival/self defense purposes.   
  
• Bottled water - Self explanitory for obvious survival reasons.  Also serves as temporary coolant for the radiator if need be.   
  
• Granolla bars/trailmix bars - Good for snacking or if I happen to miss breakfast.  I eat these pretty often so they get rotated out regularly. 
   
• Florecent Neon Yellow Jacket -  Lightweight and waterproof, I keep this rolled tightly in a small ball and stowed away in the corner of my trunk.  I remember hearing in the news a while back about driver who hit and killed a man while he was changing a tire in the shoulder lane of the freeway.  I decided if I ever needed to make repairs to my car on the side of the road I would be as visible as possible.  I've only had to use this once when my friend's car broke down on the freeway and I had to jump his battery.  It was raining and at night with very low visibility, but I felt much safer knowing passing motorists could see me clearly.   
   
• Plastic grocery bags - Stored in my passanger side door. I fold these into little triangles to save space.  They're useful for just about anything, from storing wet clothes from a day at the beach or serving as a makeshift trashbag.  Pretty sure everybody has these. 

Looking over my list I realize I probably should have some road flares in my car as well. 

I have my "tactical" LED flashlight and....
I think this is something I'll have to work on.

various small tools
small fixed blade knife (I am also usually carrying a folding Buck knife as well)
couple of liters of water
blanket for cargo (in an emergency could be used for personnel but it's kinda dirty)
phone car charger
carton of cigarettes (I know, I know, I should quit.  )
and various other junks that I should remove. My car is a mess! Lol.

Heavies, that's a good idea about the blanket and cell phone charger. 

I will post a pick later but I'm so f-in' tinfoil I got a dedicated bug out vehicle.

I have a $9 Johnson & Johnson first aid kit, a cheap led flashlight, work gloves, and a pair of walking shoes (just in case).

This guy has a good idea if you only have a car.  It might be overkill living in Hawaii though.

AnalyticalSurvival has insanely detailed and organized survival gear and plans.  I love his videos.  It is fantastic for study and ideas, terrible for morale lol.  Makes me feel extremely unprepared in comparison.

I have a large duffel bag with the following items give or take some (all from memory)

-Nightstar 3 shake light (brand is important)
-road flares
-15" large chem lights
-120 hour Nuwick candle (for heat, light, cooking. etc.)
-2 - 3 days of Mainstay food and water rations
-triangle reflectors
-cheap long lasting flashlight (red, white and blue settings)
-lighter
-flint steel w/ tinder
-poncho
-towel
-wrecking bar
-duct tape
-jumper cables
-1 gal. gas can
-Mid size First Aid kit with added bloodstoppers (tampads + Quikclot)
-Tire pressure gauge
-pen and notepad
-100ft thick rope
-tow strap
-cheap leather work gloves

Things I want to add:
-boots
-tools
-change of clothes
-blanket/sleeping bag
-spare cell phone
-rugged folding knife or maybe a dive/hunting knife that can double for bushcraft uses.

I put the car emergency kit on high priority a few years back because at the time I was very dependent on it.  Not so much now, but I'm still glad I did it. 

I like the idea of the false floor in the trunk.
In my car it came from the factory like that. Also it has seperate storage boxes near the rear seat.

6 gallon water jug
Full medical kit (including surgical tools, stethoscope, dressings, etc.)
Full Survival kit (including rations, tools, blankets, fire, etc.)

CB/VHF/scanners
Mounted spotlights
Gas
Fire Extinguishers
Extras antennas
Enough tools to pull the trans, change a CV axle, motor work, or a tire.
Machetes, road flares, flashlights, ropes and bungees
Shovel
Ax
8 person three room tent
On board air set up
Recovery tools
Oils, lubes, repair kits, other things
Coming soon, power inverter, laptop mount for passenger, clearwire modem, armor plating, and a turret.
And of course, mounts and hooks for more guns and packs and whatever.
At one point I even had an inflatable 5 person raft.

Yes I still have tons of room and yes my wife ridicules me mercilessly. Then she reminds me to rotate the food, water, and antibiotics. So helpful.
