A very interesting read from, of all places, the Washington Post....maybe things are changing >:D

I have trained 7,000 women between the ages of 11 and 80 to shoot guns. Many of them were like me: scared or opposed to guns – and not wanting to deal with the idea of using one. But they had a wake-up call that made them persist.

Mine was a 2 a.m. phone call when I learned a close friend had been raped in her own home. I decided this would not happen to me. So I made an appointment at a gun range and then canceled because of fear. But I rescheduled it and learned the basics.

It's reasons like this that we need to take people out shooting. Some people have a completely irrational fear of firearms simply because they don't know anything other than what they hear on the news and see in movies. By demystifying firearms we may not gain a new 2A supporter, but at the very least, they will be much less likely to fall for the "assault" or "high capacity" BS.

Maybe the HRA could host/sponsor a "Bring Someone New to the Range" Day. Especially targeted towards (but not only for) female shooters and their friends. This might be a fun alternative to LIFE that requires less commitment for someone who isn't sure about or into guns enough to sign up for an actual class. I realize that the Funshoots kinda fill this niche, but maybe a different themed event might bring in another "type" of prospective new shooter.

Alex, stick around, you may get your wish.

Change is in the wind.  Better join HRA if you're not a member and get the newsletter.

For those of you who wish/hope/pray that your significant other would be interested in
"the way of the gun" for women, better start now and save your lunch money to buy Momma
the gun SHE WANTS, not what you think she should have.

If it comes to pass, you may be sorry or happy that you got what you wished for, a new range companion.

No problem. And of course I'm willing to assist in any way that I can if something like this were to take shape.

On that note...I'm interested in getting NRA Instructor certified and helping out with LIFE and other events...are you the guy to talk to to help me out with that?
