Wassup guys, I bought a case of ammo 00 buck shots, shot size 9 is it ok if I use it for skeet shooting at the range. I read the rules on koko heads page but, someone replied to my reply and said 71/2 - 9 was alright, but I just wanna make sure everything is legit!! Thanks

7 1/2-9 birdshot

I think OP is confusing the number of shot with the size.............as in the 00 buckshot has 9 pellets versus a size 7-1/2 or size 9 shot........... ???

Jaynick beat me to it!

I believe that 7-1/2 to 9 refers to birdshot size, not the count of shots in your ammo.  I do not think any size buckshot is allowed.

I can't speak to the rules, but are you sure of what you bought?

What, exactly does it say on that box of shells?

I suspect maybe you bought 1 oz double-ought buckshot loads (00 Buck), which would have about 9 pellets per shell.  (Even not knowing the rules out there, I guarantee they would not allow buckshot.)

00 buckshot pellets are .33 inches in diameter, #9 shot is 0,079  inches in diameter.

???

See
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shot_(pellet)#Sizes
Note that the bigger the shot size number, the smaller is the shot pellet size.

ETA noticed someone else offered the idea that OP is confusing the nimber of pellets with the number of the shot size.

#7 1/2 - #9 Shot only for skeet and trap. The clubs at Koko Head only operate on the weekends. Google and read the rules of Skeet and Trap shooting before you show up.

I guess you didn't Google the rules.

^ He knew what shot size was OK but he was confused about the shells he bought, which sounds like they were 00 buck with 9 pellets.  I think he thinks the 9 pellets meant number 9 pellets.

That's why I'd like to know exactly how the box he bought reads.

Matchuman808, if in doubt, bring the shells back and ask the seller.

Whenever you're in doubt about anything firearm-related, ask about it.  Firearms, especially the ammo for them, can be confusing.  There's no need to be embarrassed or ashamed about not knowing something.

I've had to ask a lot of questions in my 60+ years of shooting.

Still am.

Yeah, that gives me the right to call any pretty girl "honey" without them calling the cops.   :shaka:
