So much for Wikipedia and anything resembling journalism or equal standards applied equally. What a joke! I guess I already said that...

Yup. Long ago I knew Wikipedia was totally biased. And I never donated to them because of that and even tell people not to.

It appears HBO did the same type of creative editing with their gun special....

This is good but I bet nothing will happen, because they were just doing their jobs (trying to disarm Americans). So they will get a pass.

I say hang em high. Make examples out of the whole bunch, but I am not going to hold my breath.
Maybe if there is enough outrage and protests made to the folks who enforce, or not , this stuff...
If it was any of us little folk we'd be on the inside looking out already. :(

No different than admitting to smuggling weapons onto a commercial flight "to prove you could do it."

Not that the BATFE is going to listen to NSSF, but still...

National Shooting Sports Foundation Calls for ATF Investigation Of ‘Under the Gun’

NEWTOWN, Conn – -(Ammoland.com)-  Editors Note: [The National Shooting Sports Foundation has issued the following statement regarding the recent admission by “Under The Gun” producer Stephanie Soechtig that she appears to have violated multiple Federal Gun Laws.]

Journalists and filmmakers investigating what they see as shortcomings in laws are not absolved of their responsibility both to gain the requisite understanding of how those laws work and to abide by them.

For that reason, based on statements made in a videotaped interview...

We have to point out that it would appear that a producer of the Katie Couric documentary “Under the Gun” committed at least four federal felonies, one for each firearm he appears to have illegally purchased since the individual was not a resident of Arizona where he purchased the firearms.

He may have also violated state criminal statutes. And, If Ms. Soechtig, the film’s director, sent him to Arizona to make these firearms purchases, as the tape appears to suggest, she may be guilty of engaging in a conspiracy to violate federal firearms laws and/or aiding and abetting the commission of these crimes her producer engaged in.

We also have to ask what, if any, involvement did Ms. Couric as executive producer have in these purchases?

The NSSF calls upon the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to open a criminal investigation into this important matter.

Well, no surprise really... a famous person with tons of money for legal expenses skates. Too bad though, she deserves consequences for all her lying and deceit. One can only hope she falls even further than being employed by yahoo.

Have to wonder if this judge was selected "randomly"... as he certainly seems to have a particular viewpoint about the background check question in general, and perhaps about civilian firearm ownership...

Katie Couric Beats Defamation Lawsuit Over Gun Documentary

A Virginia judge has just shot down a $13 million lawsuit against Katie Couric, Stephanie Soechtig, Epix and others associated with the documentary Under the Gun.

The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, provoked controversy because of one scene in particular. In it, Couric asks gun rights advocates, "If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing a gun?"

Under the Gun shows those being interviewed in nine seconds of silence.

In response, the Virginia Citizens Defense League attempted to make the case that this pregnant pause was defamatory. In a complaint filed in federal court, the group and its members alleged that the "manipulated footage falsely informed viewers that the VCDL members had been stumped and had no basis for their position on background checks.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Court judge John Gibney, Jr. shredded the complaint and granted a motion to dismiss.

"The plaintiffs' defamation claims fail because the interview scene is not false," Gibney writes. "Under the Gun portrays members of the VCDL not answering the question posed by Couric. In reality, members of the VCDL did not answer the question posed by Couric. They talked about background checks and gun laws generally, but did not answer the question of how to prevent felons or terrorists from purchasing guns without background checks. The editing simply dramatizes the sophistry of the VCDL members."
