Wait.... cocked and locked with the chamber empty?  I feel like I am missing something...
Sorry, what I meant to say is you or anyone can keep it cocked and locked with one in the chamber. But my personal preference would be to keep it without one in the chamber and ready to rack and tap.

Ah!

Now that makes sense!

The one I have has biometric, push pad and key options.

It has been 100% reliable in over 10 years of use, with 1000's of openings and closings.

I change the batteries once a year, whether its needed or not.

My hands can be covered in shit and it will open.
What model is it?

What kind?  I call BS.  You sir need to go back and redo your tests with video (or else it didn't happen) evidence.

Ok ok ok, for the sake of science and personal defense I'm gonna offer to supply the testing material (courtesy of my dog).  It's not fair to expect KK to supply all the materials.

Ok, Here's the pics.

First pic is of the test media.

Second pic is because the wife came in the room while I was testing so I had to push her out the door.

If I really thought I could handle my gun safely in an extremely stressful situation, I would have one in the chamber. For now, it's rack and bang.

I'm not questioning your methods, if it works for you and you're comfortable with it, it's not skin off my nose, but it seems you're storing your gun in a condition which requires extra manipulation because you're concerned you won't be able to handle it safely under stress.  Wouldn't the extra manipulation of the rack bang make it less safe, if that's your concern?

I don't practice my method of retrieval nearly enough. I know I'll be under extreme stress if I needed to be in SD mode. After I get the gun out, I'll rack it. I just really need to pratice more

I get that you might not have much opportunity to practice.  I'm just saying that it seems like you're adding an extra, unnecessary step into the retrieval process.  Either way, practice makes perfect.  I don't mind either way.  Really, I don't get the people that say you must have a round loaded, or you must have a gun with no safety, or you must do this or that or the other thing.  Really, everybody makes concessions for safety, convenience, and all sorts of other stuff.  People who poo-poo others for not keeping one in the pipe by saying that it's going to get them killed need to realize that having only a pistol might get you killed.  Having only a shotgun might get you killed.  If we really wanted to make damn sure we were never overcome in our homes, we would all dig bunkers for our master bedrooms, reinforce the walls with 1/2" plate steel, hide remote-detonated claymore mines behind the drywall, and post a 24/7 overwatch with a scoped rifle.  We'd cuddle up to loaded shotguns and have one hand on the hatch leading to our 200 meter escape tunnel.  Since none of us do that, we've all found a comfy spot that makes us feel like we've taken adequate precautions to ensure the safety and security of ourselves and our loved ones without having to dedicate our entire lives and livelihoods to the cause.  If you feel that rack, bang is good enough, fine.  I feel that one in the pipe of my .45 is good enough.  At least it's better than being a "lock the doors and have 911 on speed dial, and call it good enough" types.

Only when I travel do I chamber a round, if its at home I keep the chamber empty.  If Im in a situation where a threat is on me before my wife or I can chamber a round and get a round off then it isnt going to matter even if a round was chambered.  That said, we have no less than 3 firearms at any given time available when we are home.

Did you actually try after a workout or something to scan through it? And also out of the shower?   Biometrics are not 100% all the time, any time - we study them for security, we studied them for Security + and my navy computer security schools.

Pushpad / keypad are perfect so far as you change the batteries, but bio worries me.
